Atlantic 06:36
Sunset comes down, the grey skies awake. Too many players and too many waifs. Into the fire. Into the fire. The cold wind, it trickles and turns. This dizzy evening is my own. This dizzy evening is my own. I lifted my hand to a crooked bird She lands on my finger like I knew she would. I put a written message on her rotten claw And told her to keep it forever more. She flew a zig zag all over the streets, Rose up to the clouds up above this heat and In a hundred hours or weeks or more She'll die with my message on the ocean floor. And I will always have words Drowning. In the Atlantic at the bottom of the sea. In the Atlantic at the bottom of the sea. To say a word is a fossil is the truth. You read these now and recite and salute. Tell me how, tell me how you got here? We drink and drink and drink and drink and drink. I lowered my hand to a rabid dog, And he licked my fingers like I knew he would now. Then I put a gun to his frothing head And I whispered that he, he'd soon be dead.

Ten Days 04:39
When I was young. When I was young, I wanted to be King of the party. But then I got down so low, It's funny how now I know... I got ten days... When I am old. When I am old. My heart will ache, We will not make it. And so we fly down to the Styx And row our boat on it. I got ten days...

Take back your Adonis and your pride, I was sitting and thinking out wide, I really really really really really don't mind it no more. Odyssey and the artist and his muse, Sing to me and I'll follow all the blues, The rosy coloured fingers they rise, they rise. And singers surmise. The wine dark sea is my road, I battle Charybdis and her swirls. The Sirens they call to me: Thanks to my new life, thanks to my new life I go. I'm Athena and I'm your guide, Follow me and I'll give you a disguise. I carry and I marry all the family in this life For you. Don't care about Jupiter no more, Fat and bloated oh I wanted more. I'm falling, I'm falling, I'm falling to the ground to be A martyr and free. I really don't mind it...

Holy Songs 06:27
Come on over, come and take my moon. And steal my sun, And take my loot. Four leaf clover, Will I pick you soon? What's said is done, Don't want to lose. I could write a million songs tonight, I could write a million holy, holy, holy...songs. To every dreamer, You may find your niche. And maybe then, you're fast asleep. To the future, make my dreams come true, And bring me peace. Nothing to rue. I could do a million lines tonight, I prove a million holy, holy, holy...lies. Falling over, falling down so quick. You lapsed to nothing. You dreamt a fix. It's not clever, it's cruel and it's sick. It stole my sun. It stole my sleep. I could write a million songs tonight, I could write a million holy, holy, holy...songs.

Moving Home 05:34
Moving home, people tell me I will walk alone, In the autumn streets I'll find my peace of mind. The blue lotus it's a calling me to the sea, To be a neon traveller and free. I love this town. And it's easy talking, when I'm not alone. So I hold up my head steady now. And I don't fight my head, Cos he is my friend, he is my friend. I was walking back home... Give me shelter, give me a roof with a crystal hue, I've been flying and trying to move For all these years. And I'll come back to the empty streets, Kicking golden leaves. I love my ghost. I was walking back home. I was walking alone. I was free.

I am a prisoner. I'm paying for my sins. I am a rolling finisher. Getting drunk on Benylin, Drunk on anything. I'm drawing lines on the walls again. You better change the way you look at it And maybe you'll be ready, To fight the future and the karma...yeah... She is my prison guard. She brings me needful things. Maybe a poster of a summer scene. Or a book or two, Anything will do. This is my own Shawshank boogaloo...

Some Drinks 05:15
Nothing worse than a bad drunk thinks himself a wit, With all his friends and all their wives falling for it. The bar's another playground it's true, His inner child is coming for you. Didn't I tell you baby, There's a match made in hell for you and me. And I tried to warn you but some drinks They shouldn't people. Now here's a man with all the pressing facts of life, Even though his best man is shagging his wife. It's a kind of fallacy to be proud When the man's a joke to the crowd. It's not his fault he's unloved. Although he knows that I must... Call in last orders cos some drinks They shouldn't people. It's criminal this kind of man's got the gift of the gab. Got a gold medal in fooling you and me. Sometime it's always the easiest way to be free... I'm sorry to tell you this, man. But some drinks They shouldn't people.

Driving to the coast and I can't see a town for miles. I forgot the dance we did but it really came alive. In the golden sunlight, got the chosen playlist, Stuff from the 60's, stuff from my youth and Kiss kiss kiss kiss. Got a lot of slack because I quit my job last night, Had to save my life and set priorities right. In the golden sunlight, got the chosen playlist, Stuff from the 60's, stuff from my youth and Kiss kiss kiss kiss. In the golden sunlight, got the chosen playlist, Stuff from the 60's, stuff from my youth and Kiss kiss kiss kiss.

In our lives, We get the ups and downs and trials and goings on. And we clouds a-gathering all over unmade beds, Well help me make it, baby. To forget, The arguments we have to test ourselves at times. And I will not go to sleep tonight, I find that it's too hard, It's too hard to lie there. Baby, we are only trying to arrive, we're already there. Love me like Penelope loved Odysseus, I'm coming home, I'm coming home. You love me, You do, you do, you know you do. You recognise my scars even when I'm disguised. Remember the night at Talamati Camp under the stars? We were holy. Baby, we are only trying to arrive, we're already there. Love me like Penelope loved Odysseus, I'm coming home, I'm coming home. Baby, we are only trying to arrive. We're already there.

Slow Country 07:27
I look out the window and I see the scope Of all the choices we've that we've made. Some of them are helpless, And some are to show, The whole world what I know. And I take the road that leads me to the fair, Cos I hold dear what I consider there. The rain it stops and the dogs are howling: 'Get back, get back, get back. Get back, get back, get back'. She shows me the photos of my friends wedding, We ponder on we missed. I picture myself in that crowd, Raising my glass to the toasts. And I take the road that leads me to the fair, Cos I hold dear what I consider there. The rain it stops and the dogs are howling: 'Get back, get back, get back'. So I take the road that leads me to the fair, A sacrifice here and a sacrifice there. I turn around and I see my future bride. 'Get back, get back, get back. Get back to what you love and work it out'.

about

"Atlantic is perfect singer/songwriter indie pop that follows in the footsteps of Aztec Camera, Prefab Sprout and Lloyd Cole."

Recorded at home and at Music Asylum Studios in Bangkok, Thailand.

Laetoli Steps is an ongoing and ever-changing indie-folk project led by songwriter Rich Cramp. Formerly the lead guitarist in the London based lo-fi outfit Garlic (Bella Union), he went on to form his own band My Rocket 88 in 2003. For the next few years they gigged and toured across the UK, their style of indie-rock gaining them a following and a favorable response from the music press. After a hiatus, in 2008 Rich formed Laetoli Steps, a solo project incorporating a quieter, more folk-infused sound. Working predominantly with his wife Erika and collaborating with other musicians, Rich recorded and released his self-titled debut in 2010 and released his second album 'Banyan' in 2013.

Past reviews for the second album 'Banyan":

Laetoli Steps’ second album Banyan yet again showcases Rich Cramp’s clear talent for writing infectious pop-tinged folk music.
Carly Goodman (Forfolkssake.com)

For reasons of unchallenging high quality, I dare say Laetoli Steps are the most likely of this month’s crop to reach mainstream success.
Neil Mcleod, (Soundonsound.com)

Reviews for the self-titled debut:

“Make this record your first blind purchase of the year”
247 Magazine

"I know ‘interesting’ can mean a number of different things, but on this occasion it’s definitely good."
The Beat Surrender

"Laetoli Steps are an emerging new band who deserve as much exposure as possible to showcase their clear talents" Musicliberation.blogspot.com
